DP OPERATOR
A Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) is a specialist deck officer responsible for operating and monitoring a vessel's Dynamic Positioning (DP) system, which uses computers, sensors, thrusters, and satellite positioning technology to automatically maintain the vessel's position and heading. DPOs play a critical role in offshore operations where vessels must remain precisely positioned near drilling rigs, offshore platforms, subsea installations, and wind farms. Working closely with the bridge team, offshore personnel, and clients, they ensure operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with strict industry procedures and safety standards.
